YouTube Shorts uses AI to upscale videos without consent???

As an artist who uploads timelapse videos on YouTube, this news got me worried. Apparently YouTube is upscaling our Shorts without consent, which is kinda weird.

After watching the whole video, this seems to be damning evidence that they're using some AI upscaling tool to do this.

But then I read the comments, and one particular comment said that this may have been caused by YouTube's video codec.

I also noticed that the supposed AI upscaling tool used seems to be a standard cheap one. Some upscaling tools are much better than this.

Anyways, until YouTube made it so that we can opt-out of this (or if it is indeed just caused by YouTube's video codec), I will stop posting art shorts temporarily until further notice.
